Good Sleep with Yoga Nidra

Did you know that stress can cause insomnia by making it difficult to fall asleep and to stay asleep, and by affecting the quality of your sleep?

This makes it necessary to decrease the stress and the effects of stress in our bodies, and develop the ability to go inward whenever we can.

There are many stress reducers out there. Think, breathing or meditating, mindful walking or gardening. “Good sleep” does this for you by “cleaning up” the brain. Yoga Nidra offers you the opportunity to “clean up” the mind and body in a different way.

Sleep Benefits the Body and Mind

The Center for Disease Control has classified insufficient sleep as a public health concern. More than ¼ of the U.S. population report occasionally not getting enough sleep, while nearly 10% experience chronic insomnia. You should consider getting enough (and quality) sleep as a sign of good health.

Sleep helps “clean the brain” as well as lets the muscles of the body and mind relax.

And, according to a study at The University of Rochester, when the brain sleeps it clears out harmful toxins. This was verified in the brains of mice.

A bit of advice. The position of your body does matter in this process. Sleeping on either side is recommended.

Yoga Nidra can promote deep rest and relaxation, helping you “clean the brain” and gain better quality sleep in the process.

Are you ready to try a Yoga Nidra class? I hold classes once a month at the Sastun Center of Integrative Health. Check out the class schedule.
